Job Summary
Assisting the Compliance Lead in discharging responsibility for guiding and advising the Company and its subsidiaries, to ensure regulatory and legislative compliance, and the application of the principles of corporate governance.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist in the drafting of the policy and regulatory agenda for the Company in line with industry expectations and governance codes.
- Ensuring the resolution, or escalation to the Compliance Lead of any unaddressed or overdue items.
- Conduct research on comparative corporate governance principles of other regulatory bodies.
- Provide comparative reviews and assistance to develop Policies and a Code of Ethics.
- Supervising, communicating, and coordinating the implementation of any new regulatory development, including ensuring adequate policies and procedures are in place within the business.
- Appreciation of drafting regulations, manuals, and guidance documents.
- Ensure the proactive identification of key concern areas and alert leadership to regulatory / legislative issues and gaps, and work with them for resolution.
- Serve as independent monitor and conducts surveillance of business units’ compliance program.
- Support of overall Group alignment of policy response and Group strategy.
- Provide legal support to Compliance Lead, Company Secretaries as well as other ad-hoc legal duties.
Competence Requirements
- Appreciation, knowledge and understanding of Corporate Governance and Compliance principles i.e., international, national, environmental, legislative and regulatory
- Basic Industry Knowledge e.g. Manufacturing, Energy etc
- Analytical Skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong business acumen
- Ability to influence.
- Detail orientation
- Auditing of organizational compliance/business practices
- Resolving of compliance issues with a regulation or set of regulations.
- Ability and consistency in staying abreast with regulatory changes relevant to the industry niche of the Company.
- Appreciation and knowledge of regulations/regulatory bodies in Nigeria.
- Miniumum of 5 years experience in Legal function
- Bsc in Law (LLB)
