JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Operations /Technical is responsible for leading, optimizing, and scaling end-to-end manufacturing operations across Dangote Packaging Ltd plants. The role ensures operational excellence, technical robustness, cost competitiveness, quality consistency, safety, and continuous improvement while supporting business growth and customer requirements.

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Operations Leadership (Multi-Plant)

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership to all manufacturing plants producing PP woven sacks, fabrics, liners, and related products.
  • Drive plant-level performance in productivity, efficiency, uptime, cost, quality, delivery, and safety.
  • Standardize operating procedures, KPIs, and best practices across all plants.
  • Ensure capacity planning and production alignment with sales forecasts and business growth plans.
  • Lead cross-functional coordination between production, maintenance, quality, supply chain, and logistics teams.

 

2. Technical & Process Excellence

  • Oversee all technical aspects of sack manufacturing,
  • Lead process optimization initiatives to improve yield, reduce waste, and enhance product consistency.
  • Approve technical specifications, machinery selection, plant layouts, and technology upgrades.
  • Drive automation, digitization, and Industry 4.0 initiatives where applicable.
  • Troubleshoot critical technical issues and ensure root-cause analysis and permanent corrective actions.

 

3. Quality, Compliance & Certifications

  • Ensure consistent product quality across all plants in line with customer specifications and industry standards.
  • Oversee quality systems, including ISO or other relevant certifications.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory, environmental, and customer audit requirements.
  • Lead initiatives for continuous quality improvement and customer complaint reduction.

 

4. Cost Management & Operational Efficiency

  • Own and manage manufacturing budgets, operational costs, and capex planning.
  • Drive cost-reduction initiatives through improved process efficiency, energy optimization, raw material utilization, and waste reduction.
  • Monitor and improve OEE, conversion costs, and plant-level profitability.
  • Evaluate make-vs-buy decisions and vendor performance from a technical standpoint.

 

5. Maintenance, Reliability & Asset Management

  • Ensure robust preventive and predictive maintenance systems across plants.
  • Improve machine uptime, reliability, and lifecycle management.
  • Oversee spare parts strategy, critical equipment redundancy, and breakdown response.

 

6. People Leadership & Capability Building

  • Lead and mentor plant heads, operations managers, and technical teams.
  • Build strong technical and operational talent pipelines.
  • Drive a culture of accountability, safety, continuous improvement, and operational discipline.
  • Support training and skill development programs across plants.

 

8. Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) ·

  • Ensure a strong safety culture and compliance with all HSE regulations. 
  • Drive zero-accident initiatives and environmental sustainability practices.
  • Lead environmental initiatives, including waste reduction and recycling. 
  • Ensure compliance with NESREA and other environmental regulations.

 

KEY REQUIREMENTS

 

Education and Work Experience

  • HND / Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical / Electrical / Polymer / Chemical /Industrial).
  • Master’s degree (MBA / Operations / Engineering) preferred.
  • 15–25 years of experience in PP woven sacks or flexible packaging manufacturing, out of which 8–10+ years must be in senior leadership roles managing multi-plant operations.

Added Advantage:

  • Strong hands-on exposure to PP extrusion, weaving, lamination, printing, and sack conversion
  • Proven track record in operational turnaround, scale-up, or cost leadership.
