JOB TITLE: Engineering Director (Dangote Construction & Heavy Industries)

JOB SUMMARY

Provide engineering assurance and technical leadership across EPC/PMC/construction delivery, ensuring effective multidisciplinary integration and disciplined design management. Act as a technical authority to uphold engineering standards, support delivery performance, and ensure safe, fit-for-purpose, and high-quality project execution across all phases.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

•    Provide overall technical leadership and engineering governance across all projects, ensuring design assurance, discipline integration, constructability, value engineering, and effective resolution of technical interfaces.
•    Establish and enforce engineering management systems, including design review gates, deliverable registers, technical query (TQ) processes, document review cycles, design‑change control, and lessons‑learned frameworks.
•    Lead risk‑based engineering decision‑making under schedule and commercial pressure, while maintaining strict adherence to safety, quality, statutory, and regulatory requirements.
•    Oversee engineering inputs across the project lifecycle, ensuring seamless coordination between engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover teams.
•    Ensure strong vendor and contractor document review discipline, including equipment data sheets, drawings, calculations, and interface alignment with project requirements.
•    Drive constructability and operability reviews, ensuring designs are practical, cost‑effective, and aligned with construction sequencing and commissioning strategies.
•    Manage technical risk identification and mitigation, proactively addressing design, interface, and execution risks that could impact cost, schedule, or quality.
•    Provide authoritative oversight on technical deviations, concessions, and change impacts, ensuring decisions are technically sound and commercially informed.
•    Build, mentor, and lead discipline engineering leads, developing internal capability while effectively leveraging external engineering consultants and partners.
•    Establish and grow a Lagos‑led engineering assurance function, positioning Dangote Construction with a sustainable, high‑quality in‑house engineering capability.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

•    Professional engineering registration required or strongly preferred depending on sign-off authority: COREN registration for Nigeria-based engineering practice or recognized international Chartered Engineer / Professional Engineer credential with eligibility for Nigerian recognition.
•    Strong knowledge of international codes and standards relevant to project scope, such as API, ASME, ASTM, IEC, IEEE, NFPA, BS / Eurocodes, ISO and discipline-specific design standards.
•    Demonstrated technical authority, design review, design-change control, constructability and engineering risk-management capability.
•    Minimum 20 years engineering and design-management experience on major capital projects, EPC, EPCM, PMC, owner-engineering or construction-support organizations.
•    Minimum 10 years leading multidisciplinary engineering teams or engineering managers across civil / structural, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, process, systems and construction-support interfaces.
•    Proven track record across FEED, detailed engineering, design reviews, vendor design review, technical queries, interface management, change control and construction technical support.
•    Experience managing external design consultants, EPC engineering centres, licensors, vendors and contractor engineering interfaces.

Functional Competencies
•    Process plant, refinery, petrochemical, cement, power, ports, marine works, industrial infrastructure, roads, utilities or large building engineering experience.
•    Prior owner-engineer or technical-authority role in addition to EPC contractor / design-consultant experience.
•    Experience with EDMS platforms, BIM / 3D model review, Aconex, Navisworks, SmartPlant, AVEVA, Revit, Civil 3D or comparable engineering delivery systems.
