JOB SUMMARY
The General Manager – Polypropylene Plant is responsible for the overall leadership, management and performance of the Polypropylene Plant, ensuring safe, reliable and efficient end-to-end operations. The role is accountable for maximizing production, maintaining world-class safety and quality standards, optimizing plant performance and costs, and ensuring the long-term reliability of plant assets. The General Manager will lead multidisciplinary teams across Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Reliability, Quality and Supply Chain while working closely with Refinery and Commercial teams to achieve business objectives and support Dangote's petrochemicals growth strategy.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide overall leadership and management of the Polypropylene Plant, ensuring safe, reliable and efficient operations.
- Deliver production targets while maintaining the highest standards of product quality, process safety and environmental compliance.
- Lead Production, Maintenance, Engineering, Reliability, Utilities, Quality and Technical Services teams to achieve operational excellence.
- Optimize plant availability, throughput, yields, energy efficiency and manufacturing costs.
- Develop and implement maintenance, reliability and turnaround strategies to maximize asset integrity and minimize unplanned downtime.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity, operational efficiency and overall plant performance.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory, environmental, health and safety requirements and champion a strong process safety culture.
- Develop annual operating plans, budgets and capital expenditure requirements while ensuring effective cost control.
- Work closely with Commercial, Supply Chain and Logistics teams to align production with customer demand and business priorities.
- Build, develop and mentor a high-performing operations team through effective performance management, succession planning and capability development.
- Establish strong relationships with technology licensors, contractors, equipment suppliers and other key stakeholders.
- Prepare operational performance reports and provide regular updates to senior management on plant performance, risks and improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related Engineering discipline.
- Master's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business Administration or related field is an advantage.
- Minimum of 20 years' experience in petrochemical, refining or chemical manufacturing operations.
- At least 10 years in senior operational leadership roles within a large continuous process manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience managing polypropylene or similar processing facilities is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary operations, maintenance and engineering teams.
- Strong knowledge of process safety management, asset integrity, reliability engineering and operational excellence practices.
- Experience managing large operating budgets and driving cost optimization initiatives.
