Job Summary

The Mechanical Field Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, review, installation, fabrication, erection, and commissioning of static and rotating equipment for oil and gas projects. The role involves coordinating between engineering and construction teams, reviewing vendor documentation, resolving technical issues, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards, and supporting project execution through all phases from engineering review to final as-built documentation.

 

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Design Support

  • Review mechanical designs and engineering deliverables for static and rotating equipment.
  • Participate in the design and development of equipment including:
    • Pressure Vessels
    • Columns
    • Reactors
    • Heat Exchangers
    • Compressors
    • Associated Mechanical Packages
  • Review equipment layouts, General Arrangement (GA) drawings, and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Verify equipment nozzle orientation, load requirements, and interface details.
  • Review equipment internals and associated mechanical components.
  • Coordinate with stress analysis teams and other engineering disciplines to ensure design integrity.
  • Review 3D models for P&ID consistency, layout compliance, constructability, and recommend design improvements.

Site Execution & Construction Support

  • Control and monitor fabrication, installation, and erection activities of mechanical equipment in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Conduct site inspections, surveys, and field data collection to support engineering assessments and modifications.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues, design discrepancies, and construction challenges, providing practical engineering solutions and recommendations.
  • Prepare and issue site instructions in response to subcontractor technical queries.
  • Ensure compliance with project quality, safety, and engineering requirements during execution activities.

Vendor & Package Engineering

  • Review vendor documents, equipment data sheets, package drawings, and technical submissions.
  • Coordinate technical clarifications and interfaces between vendors, contractors, and project teams.
  • Participate in equipment inspections, technical evaluations, and vendor coordination meetings.
  • Review manufacturing processes and ensure compliance with project specifications and applicable codes.

Documentation & Project Coordination

  • Coordinate between Engineering Office and Site Office to resolve project-related issues.
  • Review and manage the issuance of engineering deliverables and revisions.
  • Review and verify final as-built drawings, layouts, and project documentation.
  • Prepare SAP Purchase Requisitions (PR), material code creation, and OSRD spare parts reports.
  • Supervise the preparation of conceptual layouts and coordinate interdisciplinary inputs through IDC (Inter-Discipline Coordination) documents.
  • Develop equipment location plans in coordination with Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Civil/Structural, Process, Safety, and Project teams.

 

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (B.Tech/B.E.) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum 10–15 years of experience in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Proven experience in mechanical engineering, field engineering, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of static and rotating equipment.
  • Experience working on EPC, refinery, petrochemical, gas processing, LNG, or offshore/onshore oil & gas projects is highly desirable.
