Job Title: Project Controls Director (Dangote Construction & Heavy Industries)
JOB SUMMARY
Establish and lead an integrated project controls function across the EPC/construction portfolio, covering end-to-end planning, cost management, progress tracking, risk and change control, forecasting, and executive-level (CEO) performance reporting to ensure accurate, timely, and decision-ready project insights.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Establish and govern the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) across all projects, including critical path analysis, look‑ahead planning, and validation of recovery and acceleration plans.
• Lead enterprise‑wide cost control, including budget management, commitments, cash‑flow forecasting, cost‑to‑complete, and earned value management (EVM).
• Define and enforce standardised progress measurement systems across engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover phases.
• Develop and maintain portfolio‑level dashboards, KPIs, and performance reports, ensuring data integrity, reporting discipline, and executive readiness.
• Prepare CEO and Board review packs, translating complex project data into clear insights, risks, trends, and decision recommendations.
• Own and govern risk registers, issue logs, change control, and trend management, ensuring early identification and mitigation of project risks.
• Interface closely with Commercial and Contracts teams on early‑warning notices, claims evaluation, and substantiation or defence of contractual positions.
• Provide independent challenge to project teams and contractors by scrutinising progress claims, forecasts, recovery plans, and cost assumptions.
• Establish and uphold project controls standards, methodologies, and governance frameworks across Dangote Construction.
• Build and lead project controls capability, ensuring consistency, discipline, and performance excellence across the project portfolio.
Key Requirements
Education and Work Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Project Management, Finance, Cost Management or related discipline. Equivalent HND may be considered with exceptional major-project controls leadership experience.
• Professional certification preferred: AACE CCP / CEP / EVP / PSP, PMI-SP, PMI-RMP, PMP, PRINCE2 Practitioner or equivalent recognized project controls credential.
• Advanced competency in Primavera P6 is mandatory. Strong Excel capability is mandatory. Power BI or equivalent dashboarding capability is strongly preferred.
• Strong command of EPC / construction contracting, baseline control, progress measurement, cost forecasting, change control and claims-sensitive documentation.
• Minimum 18 years project controls experience in EPC, EPCM, PMC, construction, industrial, infrastructure, energy, cement, refinery, power, port, rail, roads or large building programs.
• Minimum 8 years leading project controls teams, preferably across a portfolio or multi-project environment rather than a single-site-only role.
• Proven experience creating or recovering controls systems from low-maturity environments, including WBS, CBS, coding structures, reporting calendars and data-quality rules.
• Track record in executive reporting, monthly project reviews, schedule recovery analysis, cost-to-complete reviews and contractor performance challenge.
Functional Competencies
• Experience on industrial plants, refinery, petrochemical, cement, power, ports, infrastructure or large civil / building programs.
• Forensic planning, delay analysis, extension-of-time analysis, disruption analysis or claims-defense experience.
• Experience with SAP, Oracle, EcoSys, Aconex, Primavera Unifier, MS Project Server, Power BI, Tableau or comparable enterprise systems.
• Prior owner / client-side controls leadership experience in addition to EPC contractor experience.
• Ability to design a practical controls organization, reporting calendar and governance model for a Lagos-led project portfolio.
