Procurement Contract Lead
Job Title: Procurement Contract Lead
Reports to: Head, Performance, Risk & Assurance
Work Location: Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals FZE, Lagos
Purpose
The purpose of a Contract Management Lead is to serve as a strategic linchpin between legal, procurement, and operations, ensuring that every organizational agreement is a high-performing business asset rather than just a static legal document. By overseeing the entire contract lifecycle, the Lead protects the organization from value erosion—which can average nearly 10% of revenue due to poor management— while maximizing financial and operational outcomes.

• End-to-End Contract Lifecycle Management
• Strategic Governance & Leadership

Key Roles & Responsibilities

• Template Ownership: Managing and updating master service agreements (MSAs), non disclosure agreements (NDAs), and statements of work (SOWs).
• Workflow Design: Defining the internal approval chain (e.g., when Finance needs to sign off vs. when Legal needs to step in).
2. Advanced Negotiation & Drafting
• Lead Negotiator: Taking the lead on high-stakes, high-value, or legally complex deals that exceed the authority of junior staff.
• Drafting Complex Clauses: Crafting bespoke language for unique business scenarios, such as intellectual property (IP) transfers, data privacy (GDPR/CCPA) requirements, and complex indemnity.
• Liaising with Counsel: Acting as the primary bridge between the business units and external or internal legal counsel.
3. Risk Management & Compliance
• Risk Assessment: Reviewing incoming third-party contracts to identify "hidden" risks like uncapped liability or unfavourable termination for convenience clauses.
• Audit Readiness: Ensuring all signed contracts are correctly filed and searchable for regulatory audits or due diligence (e.g., during a merger or acquisition).
• Regulatory Alignment: Ensuring contracts remain compliant with changing laws, such as environmental standards, labor laws, or trade sanctions.
4. Lifecycle & Performance Monitoring
• Obligation Tracking: Ensuring the business actually delivers what was promised (and vice versa) by setting alerts for milestones and deliverables.
• Renewal Strategy: Identifying expiring contracts 90–120 days in advance to evaluate whether to renegotiate, renew, or terminate.
• Dispute Mediation: Resolving commercial disagreements with vendors or clients before they escalate into formal legal litigation.
5. Technology & Data Leadership
• CLM Administration: Serving as the "super-user" or owner of the Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) system.
