Job Summary
Dangote Cement Plc is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Accounts Analyst, Financial Assets & Liabilities to join our Finance team. In this role, you will oversee, manage, and ensure accurate accounting, valuation, reporting, and control of all financial assets and liabilities of Dangote Cement Plc in compliance with IFRS, Group Accounting Policies, Nigerian regulatory requirements, and internal controls. The role ensures integrity of the Statement of Financial Position, supports funding decisions, and enhances financial risk management across plants and corporate operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Financial Assets Management
- Maintain accurate accounting and reconciliation of:
- Cash and bank balances
- Trade and other receivables
- Intercompany receivables
- Loans and advances
- Short-term and long-term financial investments
- Ensure proper classification and measurement of financial assets in line with IFRS 9 (Amortised Cost, FVOCI, FVTPL).
- Oversee Expected Credit Loss (ECL) computations, assumptions, impairment reviews, and documentation.
- Monitor ageing of receivables and work with Credit Control and Sales teams to minimize bad debts and overdue balances.
- Reconcile bank accounts, loan accounts, and investment balances on a timely basis.
2. Financial Liabilities Management
- Manage accounting for:
- Trade payables
- Intercompany payables
- Borrowings (short-term and long-term)
- Lease liabilities (IFRS 16)
- Accrued expenses and provisions
- Ensure accurate recognition, amortisation, and disclosure of:
- Interest-bearing loans
- Bank overdrafts
- Bonds and other debt instruments
- Oversee effective interest rate (EIR) calculations and interest expense recognition.
- Monitor covenant compliance on loans and financing arrangements.
3. IFRS Compliance & Financial Reporting
- Ensure full compliance with:
- IFRS 9 – Financial Instruments
- IAS 32 – Financial Instruments: Presentation
- IFRS 7 – Financial Instruments: Disclosures
- IFRS 16 – Leases
- Prepare detailed note disclosures relating to financial assets and liabilities for statutory and management accounts.
- Support preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Liaise with Group Finance on consolidation templates and reporting timelines.
4. Treasury & Funding Support
- Work closely with the Treasury team on:
- Loan drawdowns and repayments
- Cash flow forecasting
- Debt restructuring and refinancing
- Foreign exchange exposure and revaluation
- Ensure correct accounting for foreign currency transactions and retranslation in line with IAS 21.
- Provide accounting input for new financing arrangements and major capital projects.
5. Internal Controls & Risk Management
- Implement and monitor strong internal controls over financial assets and liabilities.
- Ensure compliance with SOX-style controls, Group policies, and segregation of duties.
- Identify financial risks related to credit, liquidity, interest rate, and FX exposures.
- Support Internal Audit reviews and promptly close audit findings.
6. Audit & Regulatory Interface
- Serve as key liaison for:
- External auditors
- Internal auditors
- Regulators and financial institutions
- Provide audit schedules, reconciliations, confirmations, and explanations as required.
- Ensure timely resolution of audit queries and implementation of recommendations.
7. Team Leadership & Capacity Building
- Supervise and mentor accounting officers responsible for assets and liabilities.
- Review work outputs for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
- Build a high-performing team with strong IFRS and financial control competence.
Education and Work Experience:
- B.Sc. or HND in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related discipline.
- Professional certification in Accounting (ACA, ACCA) is an added advantage.
- 10 years relevant work experience in Accounting or Finance function.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong exposure to manufacturing, cement, or large industrial operations.
- Hands-on experience with IFRS financial instruments accounting.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS (9, 7, 16, IAS 32, IAS 21).
- Advanced proficiency in SAP / Oracle / ERP systems.
- Strong analytical and reconciliation skills.
- Sound understanding of treasury operations and debt instruments.
