The Auto Electrician is responsible for the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of electrical and electronic systems in heavy-duty trucks in accordance with OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out daily, periodic, preventive, and breakdown maintenance on truck auto-electrical systems to ensure optimal performance and availability.
- Diagnose and repair faults in electrical and electronic systems including wiring, lighting systems, alternators, starters, batteries, sensors, and Electronic Control Modules (ECMs).
- Install, maintain, and service truck-mounted electrical components such as GPS systems, tracking devices, and other auxiliary electronics.
- Perform electrical inspections and testing to identify faults and ensure compliance with OEM specifications and safety standards.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals for accurate fault diagnosis and repair.
- Support major repairs, overhauls, and system upgrades of truck electrical systems.
- Ensure proper handling, usage, and safekeeping of tools and equipment.
- Comply strictly with all safety procedures, including the use of prescribed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and promptly report hazards, incidents, or near misses.
- Collaborate with mechanical technicians and other maintenance personnel to resolve complex vehicle issues.
Qualifications and Experience
- Trade Test, Diploma, or equivalent qualification in Auto Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in maintaining and repairing heavy-duty trucks (CNG).
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
- Sound knowledge of diesel engine systems, and heavy-duty truck maintenance.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and repair documentation.
- Proficiency in the use of automotive diagnostic tools and workshop equipment.
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a maintenance team.
- Good communication and record-keeping skills.
