The Auto Electrician is responsible for the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of electrical and electronic systems in heavy-duty trucks in accordance with OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) guidelines. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out daily, periodic, preventive, and breakdown maintenance on truck auto-electrical systems to ensure optimal performance and availability.
  • Diagnose and repair faults in electrical and electronic systems including wiring, lighting systems, alternators, starters, batteries, sensors, and Electronic Control Modules (ECMs).
  • Install, maintain, and service truck-mounted electrical components such as GPS systems, tracking devices, and other auxiliary electronics.
  • Perform electrical inspections and testing to identify faults and ensure compliance with OEM specifications and safety standards.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals for accurate fault diagnosis and repair.
  • Support major repairs, overhauls, and system upgrades of truck electrical systems.
  • Ensure proper handling, usage, and safekeeping of tools and equipment.
  • Comply strictly with all safety procedures, including the use of prescribed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and promptly report hazards, incidents, or near misses.
  • Collaborate with mechanical technicians and other maintenance personnel to resolve complex vehicle issues.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Trade Test, Diploma, or equivalent qualification in Auto Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in maintaining and repairing heavy-duty trucks (CNG).

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Sound knowledge of diesel engine systems, and heavy-duty truck maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and repair documentation.
  • Proficiency in the use of automotive diagnostic tools and workshop equipment.
  • Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a maintenance team.
  • Good communication and record-keeping skills.
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety procedures.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform demanding mechanical tasks.
