Job Summary
The Auto Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy-duty trucks to ensure they operate safely, efficiently, and in accordance with manufacturer specifications. The role involves preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis, and corrective repairs to minimize vehicle downtime and support operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults on heavy-duty trucks.
- Repair trucks by identifying the root cause of breakdowns and implementing effective corrective actions.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal vehicle performance and reliability.
- Test repaired trucks to verify proper operation and ensure all repairs meet company quality standards.
- Conduct routine servicing, including cleaning, lubrication, fluid replacement, filter changes, and other scheduled maintenance activities.
- Inspect truck components such as engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, cooling systems, and electrical systems for wear or defects.
- Replace or repair defective parts using appropriate tools, equipment, and diagnostic instruments.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, maintenance activities, and parts used.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations while carrying out maintenance activities.
- Keep the workshop, tools, and equipment clean, organized, and in good working condition.
- Report major defects, recurring faults, and maintenance requirements to the the supervisor and workshop manager.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor and workshop manager.
Qualifications and Experience
- Trade Test, Diploma, or equivalent qualification in Automotive Mechanics or a related field.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in maintaining and repairing heavy-duty trucks (CNG).
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
- Sound knowledge of diesel engine systems and heavy-duty truck maintenance.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and repair documentation.
- Proficiency in the use of automotive diagnostic tools and workshop equipment.
