CNG Mechanical Technician

The CNG Mechanical Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) mechanical systems and equipment at the station.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair CNG compressors, engines, valves, piping, and mechanical assemblies.

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on CNG mechanical equipment to minimize downtime.

  • Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out effective repairs on compressors and auxiliary systems.

  • Monitor compressor performance, pressure levels, and mechanical parameters to ensure optimal operation.

  • Replace worn or defective mechanical components such as seals, bearings, belts, and filters.

  • Conduct routine lubrication, alignment, and mechanical adjustments on equipment.

  • Ensure all mechanical work complies with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.

  • Support safe start-up and shutdown of CNG equipment during operations and maintenance activities.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, job reports, and equipment logs.

  • Collaborate with electrical technicians and station operators to resolve equipment issues.

  • Respond promptly to mechanical breakdowns and emergency maintenance situations.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Trade Test Certification  (Mechanical), OND in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

  • Minimum of 2–5 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance, preferably in CNG, gas processing, oil & gas, or industrial plants.

  • Hands-on experience with compressors, rotating equipment, and mechanical systems.

  • Strong understanding of mechanical drawings, manuals, and maintenance procedures.

 

Skills and Competencies

  • Mechanical troubleshooting and repair expertise.

  • Knowledge of CNG systems, compressors, and gas handling equipment.

  • Strong safety awareness and adherence to operational procedures.

  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

  • Basic reporting and documentation skills.
