The Check Point Officer responsible for overseeing the movement of cement trucks plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of cement logistics operations. This position involves regulating vehicle transit at designated checkpoints, verifying compliance with safety regulations, and maintaining precise records related to truck movements. 

 

Key responsibilities

  • Effectively manage the entry and exit of cement trucks at checkpoints to uphold stringent security protocols and maintain operational fluidity.
  • Facilitate the timely movement of vehicles to mitigate congestion and enhance overall project efficiency.
  • Rigorously check and validate all requisite documentation, including waybill papers, and identity cards ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain precise records of truck arrivals and departures, incorporating timestamps and detailed truck information to support operational integrity.
  • Diligently ensure that all trucks comply with safety standards and regulatory requirements before granting movement authorization.
  • Conduct regular inspections to proactively identify and rectify any safety or maintenance concerns.
  • Collaborate with logistics and operations teams to relay timely updates regarding truck movements and any issues encountered.
  • Promptly report any violations or incidents, thus fostering a culture of accountability and safety within operations.
  • Act as a reliable point of contact for emergencies or accidents involving cement trucks, adhering to established protocols to ensure efficient resolution.
  • Engage in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing emergency response strategies.
  • Facilitate the onboarding process for new checkpoint personnel by delivering comprehensive training on established procedures and protocols.
  • Promote the development of a knowledgeable workforce by providing consistent guidance and support, thereby fostering a secure checkpoint environment.
  • Systematically enter and update daily logs and reports concerning truck movements and associated incidents, thereby encouraging operational transparency.
  • Analyze the data collected to identify trends and potential areas for improvement, continuously enhancing checkpoint operations.

 

Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree/HND or its equivalent in Transport Management and Logistics, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in logistics management.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Basic knowledge of relevant supporting tools and technologies such as MS Excel, Project Management applications, etc.
  • Ability to appraise and use IT packages and electronic communication methods.
  • Basic knowledge of system-based inventory management systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and quality.
  • Willingness to learn, improve, and adapt to changing requirements.
  • Excellent geographical knowledge.
  • Good people management and coordination skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of the transportation industry.
