The Safety Officer is responsible for driving compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards. The role supports the prevention of workplace incidents, road traffic accidents, and operational hazards through proactive risk management, safety inspections, incident investigations, employee engagement, and regulatory compliance. The position also provides oversight on driver fitness and fatigue-related risks as part of overall safety management.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and enforce compliance with company HSE policies, procedures, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct routine inspections, audits, and safety observations to identify hazards, unsafe acts, and non-compliance issues, ensuring timely corrective actions.
  • Monitor fleet operations, vehicle movements, loading/offloading activities, and driver compliance with road safety, journey management, and defensive driving standards.
  • Conduct safety inspections of all facilities to ensure operational readiness and safe working conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with CNG operational procedures, process safety requirements, and emergency response protocols.
  • Participate in hazard identification, risk assessments, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), and implementation of risk control measures.
  • Monitor driver fitness for duty, including adherence to work-rest schedules, and identify fatigue-related risks as part of routine safety checks.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, near misses, and unsafe occurrences, prepare reports, and monitor closure of corrective actions.
  • Deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks, driver engagement sessions, and awareness programs to promote a strong safety culture.
  • Support emergency preparedness activities, drills, and response initiatives across operational locations.
  • Monitor housekeeping, environmental compliance, waste management, and pollution prevention practices.
  • Maintain accurate HSE records, prepare periodic reports, and support internal audits, regulatory inspections, and certification assessments.
  • Monitor contractor and third-party activities to ensure compliance with company HSSE requirements and industry best practices.

 

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or a related discipline.

Professional Certifications

  • NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) – Preferred.
  • IOSH Managing Safely or Equivalent.
  • ISPON Membership/Certification.
  • HSE Level I, II & III Certifications.
  • Additional certifications in Fire Safety, Defensive Driving, Incident Investigation, or CNG Operations Safety will be an advantage.

 

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years relevant HSE experience within logistics, transportation, manufacturing, oil & gas, fleet operations, or CNG facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in safety inspections, incident investigations, risk assessments, and compliance monitoring.
  • Experience managing transport safety programs and working in high-risk operational environments is highly desirable.
