Key Duties and Key Responsibilities
- Belt Splicing & Repair: Performs hot and cold volcanizing to join belt ends of Steel cord and Nylon fabric conveyor belts of various specifications. Installs mechanical fasteners to repair the weak joints or weak portion of belt.
- Inspection & Maintenance: Regularly inspects conveyors for damage, wear or misalignment and performs preventive maintenance.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operates tools including belt cutters, grinders, and hydraulic/electric vulcanizing presses.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, during repair and maintenance.
- Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of belt conditions, repairs & maintenance activities, stock taking of vulcanizing materials with expiry dates and recommends management for initiating procurement action.
Academic Qualification, Experience and Competence
- ITI Fitter or Mechanical Engineering Diploma.
- Trained in both hot and cold vulcanization techniques of Steel cord and Nylon fabric conveyor belts.
- Proven hands-on experience as a belt technician Experience: Requires 15+ years of experience in belt splicing and belt conveyor maintenance. Must have belt jointing experience on both fabric and steel cord belts.
- Experience: Requires 15+ years of experience in belt splicing and belt conveyor maintenance. Must have belt jointing experience on both fabric and steel cord belts.
- Hands on experience on belt replacement, able to calculate the total required length including margin for jointing, margin for elongation on take up etc.
- Hands on experience in different pulley lagging which includes rubber and ceramic tiles pulley lagging.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in both hot and cold vulcanization techniques.
- Knowledge: Understanding of different conveyor belt types and splicing methods.
- Physical Ability: Able to work in heavy industrial environments, which may involve lifting, climbing and working on-site.
