Job Purpose:
To provide legal and compliance support to the Head of Legal for Pan-Africa (Anglophone), with a particular focus on the legal operations of the cement business in Tanzania. The Legal Officer will ensure that the company’s operations comply with applicable laws and internal policies, and will support contract management, regulatory filings, dispute resolution, and corporate governance matters.
Key Responsibilities:
Legal Advisory & Compliance
- Provide legal advice on Tanzanian laws relevant to the cement industry, including but not limited to the Companies Act, Environmental Management Act, Employment and Labour Relations Act, and Mining Act.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with local and regional regulatory requirements.
- Support the implementation of group-wide compliance initiatives in Tanzania.
Contract Management
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, including supply agreements, service contracts, and MoUs.
- Maintain a contract database and ensure timely renewals and compliance with contractual obligations.
Regulatory & Statutory Filings
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, Tanzania Revenue Authority, and the Business Registration and Licensing Agency (BRELA).
- Ensure timely filing of statutory returns (where applicable) and maintenance of corporate records.
Dispute Resolution & Litigation Support
- Assist in managing disputes, including labour, commercial, and environmental matters.
- Coordinate with external counsel and monitor litigation progress.
Corporate Governance
- Support board and committee meetings by preparing resolutions, minutes, and compliance reports.
- Ensure adherence to internal governance frameworks and group policies.
- Review policies and procedures where required.
Cross-Border Coordination
- Collaborate with legal teams across other Pan-African jurisdictions to harmonise legal practices and share best practices.
- Provide legal support for regional projects and transactions.
- Perform such other legal tasks as may be assigned.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from a recognised university; admission to the Bar in Tanzania is an advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years’ post-qualification experience in corporate/commercial law, preferably in the manufacturing or extractive sector.
- Experience working in or with multinational organisations or Pan-African operations is desirable.

- Strong knowledge of Tanzanian corporate, labour, and environmental law.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- High level of integrity and professional ethics.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across jurisdictions.
- Fluent in Swahili and English.
- Good writing skills.
