Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated welder at Dangote - Okpella Cement Limited who will be responsible for performing welding and fabrication tasks essential for the maintenance, repair, and installation of plant equipment. The role involves working with various metals and welding techniques to ensure equipment integrity, safety, and optimal plant operations.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine welding requirements.
- Carry out welding, brazing, cutting, and fabrication on plant machinery, structures, pipelines, and equipment.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance welding on kilns, conveyors, silos, hoppers, and other cement plant components.
- Inspect and test welded surfaces and structures to ensure quality and compliance with safety standards.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to plan and execute shutdowns and emergency repairs.
- Operate welding equipment, hand tools, and power tools safely and efficiently.
- Maintain records of work performed, materials used, and time spent on tasks.
- Comply with company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, including use of PPE and safe work practices.
- Assist in the training of junior welders and apprentices as needed.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by Sectional Heads.
Requirements
Education and Work Experience
- National Diploma in Mechanical Technology.
- Minimum of five (3) years of progressive experience in welding within industrial or cement-related field.
Skills And Competencies
- Proficiency in MIG, TIG, arc welding, and oxy-acetylene cutting.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and welding symbols.
- Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and problem-solving skills.
- Physical fitness and ability to work in confined spaces or at heights.
- Knowledge of safety standards and best practices in welding operations.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
