WEED SCIENTIST-DSR NUMAN, ADAMAWA STATE.

 Job Summary

Designs and implement integrated weed management (IWM) strategies to protect sugarcane yield. Evaluate herbicide efficacy, weed biology and develop sustainable cultural and mechanical practices that minimize crop-weed competition while protecting the local environment. Play a critical role in controlling sugarcane flowering preventing it in commercial fields to avoid severe sucrose yield losses.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

·       Monitor and study herbicides -resistant weeds, ensuring chemical programs rotates active ingredients effectively.

• Identify and map problematic weed species in sugarcane estates, tracking changes in weed population dynamics and shifts in species over time.
• Develop and oversee the application of flowering inhibitors such as Ethephon to prevent or reduce floral initiation in commercial fields.
• Collect biometric data during crop growth, analyze field results using statistical software, and generate comprehensive reports for Agronomy Manager.
• Train farm managers and technicians on safe pesticide applications, equipment calibration and safety protocols.

Educational Qualification and Work Experience

• Msc. Sugarcane weed control.
• Any relevant profession certificate.
• 5+ years work experience
